AFS Primary Science Gilt Award (again!)

29/9/22

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark at Gilt level for the second time!

Mr Morrow continues to do a tremendous job leading Science at Archibald and a huge thank you must go to him to recognise his hard work and dedication.

Just look at the remarks from the key assessors…

What a buzz there must be about science at Archibald First School! This is a high-quality submission which more than meets the criteria for the PSQM Gilt. It has too many strengths to mention, but I would like to highlight the links with families, science capital and the resource base.
The drive and leadership of Sean, the science lead, is obvious throughout. You should be very proud of your whole school community and the way they have responded to your initiatives given the
challenges they have faced. Similarly, I hope the whole school community are equally proud of you and the hugely positive influence you have had on science teaching and learning. Congratulations.
Bill Roffey, Reviewer and Hub Leader

Sean has clearly worked incredibly hard this year to develop the quality of science teaching and learning at Archibald First School. From an already high starting point, it is clear that significant progress has been made against each one of the PSQM criteria – well done.
Congratulations to all at the school – you should be very proud of all that has been accomplished.
Helen Spring, PSQM Hub Leader and Reviewer

Over 400 Primary Science Quality Marks have been awarded to infant, junior, primary, middle and special schools this month to celebrate their commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning.  So far, since its national launch in 2010, over 5000 schools across the UK have achieved a prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark.

Primary Science Quality Mark is a one-year school improvement programme for primary science, which provides professional development for new and experienced subject leaders each year. PSQM enables confident, knowledgeable, reflective leadership which results in an improvement in the way in which science is planned and taught across the whole school.

The Primary Science Quality Mark is led by the University of Hertfordshire in collaboration with the Primary Science Teaching Trust.
