Year 2 Coast to Coast

13/2/23

Year 2 had a letter from a special visitor this term. Timmy the Turtle had left his home in the Pacific Ocean and was looking for a new home in the UK. He needed the help of Year 2 , so they have spent this term learning about the beautiful and varied coastline of the Uk. As geographers they looked at maps and aerial images and used their research skills to find out about the features of seaside towns and villages.

They also found out about plastic polluting the ocean and how damaging it can be for all the creatures who call the ocean their home.

Using their decision making skills the children decide that Timmy would move to Tynemouth ! The people of the North East are so friendly and the coastline would be perfect for Timmy. He might even go for a visit to the Blue Reef Aquarium to meet up with some other turtles.

In Literacy the children explored the text Flotsam by David Wiesner . This inspired us to write acrostic poetry and diary entries from the point of view as the little boy on the beach.

To celebrate their work Year 2 also performed their class assembly to their families. They sang ‘Yellow Submarine’ , ‘OH I do like to be Beside the Seaside’ and ‘I’ll get by with a little help from my friends’.

Well done Year 2 on your geography skills this term!
