School Attendance and Welfare Officer - Grant Short
Grant Short, is our Attendance and Welfare Officer. He works with Clennell Education Solutions and has lots of experience supporting families across the North East.
His role is to work in partnership with pupils, families and staff to enable all pupils to have full access to educational opportunities and overcome barriers at home and school which may impact on the children's education. Grant works with families to help improve pupil attendance, ensuring children are safe, supported, and able to engage fully in school life.
What does Grant do?
His main role is:
- To promote good attendance and punctuality in school
- To do home visits
- To build parents and carers confidence to deal with difficult parenting issues and behaviours
- To strengthen relationships and communication between home, school and other professionals
- To encourage involvement in school activities
- To help parents and carers support their children with their learning
- To sign post to external professionals for specific areas of support if needed
When is Grant Available?
Grant will usually be in school on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. If you would like to contact him or to arrange a meeting with him, please reach out to the school office.
What kind of things might Grant be able to support with?
You may wish to contact him for issues such as:
- My child doesn't want to come to school and I don't know how to help.
- I’m really worried about my child’s self-esteem.
- We have had a bereavement in the family.
- I just need someone to talk to.
- I need help sorting out a housing problem.
- I am worried about violence in our household.
- I have some questions about being a parent/carer.
- My financial situation has changed and I’m worried about money.
- I am struggling with my health and need some help.
Local Authority Attendance Officer
Our Local Authority Attendance Officer is Yvonne Devine. Yvonne oversees our attendance and punctuality data on a half termly basis and consults the DfE Attendance Records.
Yvonne holds school to account for both attendance and punctuality information. She will also meet with families where there is a need.
