Year 3's Ancient Egyptian Workshop

Year 3 had a visit from Durham University as part of their topic on Ancient Egypt and other civilisations. It was a pleasure to welcome Dan and Patrick for the day and we enjoyed learning lots of new facts about the way of life for the Ancient Egyptian people.

We handled artefacts from up to 5000 years ago which helped us to use our skills as historians and see first hand what talented craftsmen they were.

As part of the workshop, we created clay amulets inspired by the objects Egyptians believed could offer protection and support in the afterlife.

And finally, the children explored the purpose and process of mummification and the beliefs that shaped the way Egyptians honoured the dead.

It was gory, gruesome and fantastic We loved every moment!
