Year 3 Spring Term Extravaganza!

Year 3 have had an exciting Spring Term. It has been a wonderful term, full of learning and new experiences which we would like to share with you.

EXTREME EARTH – ‘Just how powerful is our world?

We’ve been learning about Volcanoes and Earthquakes around the world. We have used a range of maps to find out what causes Volcanoes and Earthquakes. We found out how plate tectonics can cause natural disasters around the world. We answered our final questions by having a discussion and recording our ideas.

COMPUTING GREEN SCREEN

In computing, we’ve been using Green Screen to create pictures, then videos. We created our own News Reports on Natural Disasters. We had to resize and edit our videos so we could be placed behind a news reporter desk. We’re very impressed with how professional our videos are!

Safer Internet Week ICT ‘Let’s talk about it!’ Tuesday 7th February, 2023

We took part in a range of different activities. Our favourite was ‘Let’s talk about it’, we asked all of our friends what they did online and considered how we can keep each other safe by using trusted adults to help us check the settings of our games.

Children’s Mental Health Week February 6th – 12th February

Also for Children’s Mental Health Week, we played a game called ‘Let’s Connect’. We discussed all of our similarities and differences and what connections we all had in common. Look at our Jigsaw!

PSHE: Our rights…

In PSHE, we’ve been making our own videos to show what the rights of children are. We discussed how we all have the right to an education, clean water and recorded our learning in class videos. We also discussed in detail the awful earthquakes in Syria and Turkey and were pleased that we could have a nonuniform day to try and raise money to help the people who needed it most.

“We decided to create our own class videos to show what our rights are. We linked these ideas to what we have been learning in RE, when we’ve been talking about relating our understanding to the world we live in.” Oliver.

MUSIC – ‘Ukulele Lessons’

We’ve been lucky enough to receive Ukulele lessons from Jo through the Newcastle Music Service. She has taught us to play different chords using a range of games and warm up activities. We’re looking forward to continuing this next half term and producing a final performance using the song ‘Three Little Birds’ Watch this space for our future performance…

PE – Gymnastics

In Gymnastics, we’ve been using a range of apparatus to practise jumps. We’ve mastered tuck jumps, half turns, pike jumps and star jumps from a range of heights. We’ve also been learning different balances on apparatus using a range of equipment.

“Gymnastics is my favourite sport because it allows me to develop my strength and practise new routines, whilst working together with my friends.” Ella

DT ‘ Structures – Castles’

In DT, we designed, built and evaluated our own castles which had to include a drawbridge, 3D shapes and towers and turrets. We also had to think about who our castle was for and how to strengthen materials.

“My castle was very strong because I stuck two pieces of cardboard together. I also created a hinge for the drawbridge.” Rex

RE – How well can you relate and reflect about your own beliefs?

In RE, we’ve been learning to relate and reflect about our own beliefs in relation to Sikhism.  We created our own video to show the facts we’ve learnt about Sikhism using fun quizzes and activities in class. After this, we discussed how Sikh’s beliefs and practices can relate to what else we know. Finally, we reflected on our own beliefs and practices. We were really pleased that Nihira brought us in some pictures of her visiting the Hindu Temple and her special objects from home. This enabled us to have a discussion about different religions and non-religious beliefs, following on from world religions day in January.
