Year 4 Festive Fun!

14/12/23

Year 4 have all been on fantastic form this half term! Everyone worked incredibly hard and did such a wonderful job in our Christmas concert. We really hope we put you in a fabulous, festive mood!

A highlight this half term was our brilliant Beamish trip! Pupils enjoyed a Take One Spark workshop which involved discovering how dangerous mining could be as we were treated to fascinating facts and observed a range of real-life explosions in front of our very eyes! We explored the Pit Village and went down the mine to discover just how hard being a miner could be. Everyone loved exploring the 1900’s town including popping into the sweet shop, bakery, dentist and much more. Of course, a trip to Beamish wouldn’t be complete without a ride on a tram or a visit to the gift shop! The trip brought our Tunnels Below topic to life and made everyone smile for the entire day!

Year 4 have also had a very musical half term! All pupils have worked very hard in their ukulele lessons to learn a range of different chords.  These chords have been used to play and sing popular hits such as Hall of Fame, Shotgun and Roar. As the festive season began, Year 4 then played and sang Christmas classics such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad. Year 4 impressed everyone so much that we decided to celebrate our success by performing a wonderful ukulele concert. Everyone played absolutely brilliantly and sang beautifully. It was a truly fabulous ukulele concert!

In DT, we have have been learning about different types of fastenings. We have been using this knowledge and our expert sewing skills to create a book jacket with a button.

In literacy, we have read the book Street Child which is set in the Victorian Era. The children really have created some truly wonderful pieces of writing in literacy this half term. The adventure stories that children created in the role of Jim Jarvis were particularly excellent. You might even think they’d been written by children in Year 5 or Year 6!

As scientists, we have been learning about the states of matter and the water cycle. This has involved carrying out a range of investigations involving temperature, changing states as well as researching to find out additional information.

Year 4 also had a brilliant trip to Hindu Temple Newcastle. We found out lots of important facts about Hinduism and all of Year 4 were very respectful which was lovely to see.

Finally, we rounded off the half-term by making Christmas cards and calendars. For our calendars, we used one-point perspective art skills to create some beautiful pieces of work. Have a look and see what you think!

It really has been a fantastic half term in Year 4. The children all continue to dazzle us every single day with their enthusiasm and hard work. We ho-ho-hope you all have the most wonderful Christmas holiday and a fabulous New Year!
